Assist Us To Live!
Disabled and terminally ill people campaigning for our lives.
A collective of disabled and terminally ill people campaigning to live. The answer to suffering is funded, better care – not a law that helps us end our lives. We’re working to stop the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia, and to demand the care every person deserves. This means fully funding palliative care, reforming social care, and addressing other unfulfilled aspects of disability rights in the UK: accessible housing, transport, education, work, and more. Only in a world where we all have the basics can we consider assisted suicide.

Our position
What we believe
Supporters of “assisted dying” laws talk about compassion and choice. We believe real compassion means never giving up on people, and real choice is impossible without proper care and support already in place. Here’s why we oppose changing the law.
🕊️
Every life has equal worth
No one’s life becomes less valuable because of illness, disability, age, or dependence on others. The law should protect that principle without exception.
🩺
Care first, not a lethal alternative
Too many people who ask to die are really asking for their pain, isolation, or fear to be taken seriously. Investment in palliative and social care should come before any right to die.
⚖️
Safeguards don’t hold
In every country that has legalised assisted dying, the criteria that were promised as strict limits have been widened over time. Once that principle is conceded the boundaries inevitably move.
🤝
Pressure is invisible
Not every pressure to “not be a burden” is spoken aloud. Disabled people, older people, and those without support are especially exposed to subtle coercion that an assessment process cannot detect.
🧭
Disabled people are telling us
Many disability rights organisations oppose these laws, warning that they encode a judgement that a disabled life is one worth ending – a judgement no law should make.
🏥
Trust between doctor and patient
Medicine should never ask a doctor to end a patient’s life. That boundary protects patients, doctors, and the doctor-patient relationship.
