Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Mailing list form

When you complete this form, we collect the details you provide: your first name, last name, email address, constituency, whether you identify as a disabled or terminally ill person, and whether you would be willing to share your story or reason for opposing the bill.

Where your data is stored. Your responses are collected through Google Forms and stored on Google Drive. Your email address is also added to our Substack newsletter list so that we can keep you updated. Both Google and Substack are based in the United States, which means your data may be processed outside the UK. Where this happens, it is protected by appropriate safeguards as required by UK data protection law.

How we may contact you. If you indicated “Yes” or “Maybe” to being willing to share your story, we may contact you using the email address you provided to discuss this further. You are under no obligation to respond, and you can decline at any point.

Special category data. The form asks whether you are a disabled or terminally ill person. Under UK data protection law, information about a person’s health, including disability and terminal illness, is “special category data” and is given extra protection. We ask for this information so that we can understand who is engaging with our campaign and, where relevant, represent the voices of disabled and terminally ill people. You are not required to answer this question, and you may select “Prefer not to say”.

Your rights. You can unsubscribe from the Substack newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send. You can also ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. To do so, contact us at info@assistustolive.com.
